You can't talk about the Oscars without mentioning this movie: Titanic (PG-13). It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet with director James Cameron. It is about a young man named Jack Dawson who enters a poker game to win a ticket among the luxurious ship known as The Titanic. After his succession, he enters the Titanic only to meet the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. Her name was Rose DeWitt Bukater. The problem was that he was a member of the steerage section of the boat, and among the poorest of the poor. She was on of the rich women entering America. On top of that a person named Cal was deeply in love with her and he was rich. Rose was a different woman compared to most woman back in the day. She did not like being controlled by men who wanted to feel empowered. She didn't care if she was given all of the money in the world. She wanted to find true love. She finds it in Jack, but I'm sure you all know about the result of "the strongest ship in the world." It is a story of survival and love. It proves that love can't be bought, it has to be earned with hard work and true passion. This is truly a movie different then others. It is an epic love story and after seeing this movie you won't feel the same. Titanic won 11 Oscars out of a possible 14. This includes best director and best picture. However two out of the three nominations that Titanic did not get include best actor (DiCaprio), and best actress(Winslet). In my personal opinion both of them should have won. Over the years these two people have been award winning films, and have done superb jobs. Recently Winslet won for her performance in The Reader. DiCaprio on the other hand hasn't won once for his roles. I can name a number of roles he should have won for including his roles in, Titanic, The Departed, Gangs of New York, and others. He is truly one of the greatest actors of our time and should be recognized for it. Anyway Titanic is with out a doubt one of the greatest Oscar winning pictures of all time. It also stars Kathy Bates and Bill Paxton. Overall I give this movie 4 popcorn buckets out of a possible 5.I don't like the whole flashback stuff. I would prefer if it started in 1912, and ended in 1997. There are some unrealistic parts of the movie that I don't personally enjoy, but I will let you be the judge of that. Ah Titantic..one of the greatest love stories in recent cinematic history - it was the "Twilight" of its time without the vampires and werewolves. Just a sinking ship and an eternal love!
